UST-KNOW TAPE TEARING TIP

Masking tape comes with a couple of nuisances: 1) the tape won’t tear, and 2) the seam disappears. While there are tape holders that can help prevent these issues, there’s an easier way to solve both problems. Here’s what to do:

  1. Pull the amount of tape you need from the roll.
  2. Fold the piece of tape downward, rolling your wrist so the piece folds under itself at a 90-degree angle.
  3. Use a snapping motion to pull the piece of tape against the edge of the roll. This will tear the tape easily and with a clean line.

You’ve broken off a clean piece of tape without needing to set the roll down or use your teeth, but that’s not the best part; this trick leaves behind a perfect triangular starting tab for next time you need the tape. No more searching for a seam!
